What are your key CTE responsibilities in your current job role?
As CTE Director, I am responsible for aligning our programs of study to meet industry standards and workforce needs. I also oversee our budget and resources, manage our industry-based certification and work-based learning programs, and support CTE teachers throughout the school year.
Currently, I'm involved in the building of a state-of-the-art CTE facility at Sweetwater High School, made possible by a recently passed bond, which will enhance educational opportunities in technical and career-focused fields.
Why do you feel CTE is important to the future of education?
CTE is essential for the future of education because it equips students with practical skills and foundational knowledge necessary for success. Through CTE, students gain real-world skills that provide them with a strong foundation for life after high school, regardless of the path they choose. CTE also emphasizes the importance of guidance and support, helping students make informed life decisions.
Moreover, CTE fosters a sense of purpose and preparation through hands-on learning and personal mentorship, which can inspire students to make impactful contributions. Ultimately, CTE is a future-oriented educational system that adapts to students’ evolving needs and the demands of the workforce.
What is the biggest benefit students can receive from enrolling in CTE programs/course?
The biggest benefit students can receive from enrolling in CTE is gaining a strong foundation of real-world skills and career readiness, which prepares them for life after high school. This is true whether they choose to pursue further academics or enter the workforce directly.
CTE offers practical, hands-on experience combined with guidance and support, enabling students to make informed life decisions and feel equipped to succeed in various professional environments. This blend of practical skills and personal mentorship fosters purpose, confidence, and adaptability, all of which are crucial for navigating future career paths.
What are some of your hobbies?
I greatly enjoy cooking, and baking specifically. Beyond that, I love spending time with my family and travelling when my school schedule allows. I really like being outdoors, working with my hands, crocheting, and just being creative and trying new things.
